An archeological dig in 2010 uncovered Bury St Edmunds Bronze Age origins. Additionally they identified Roman artefacts. The city was a royal borough on the Saxons and got its title as a result of it remaining the burial spot of King Edmund The Martyr, who was killed via the Danes in 869.
